Update November 10, 2025

Leveling up

We’re really leveling up big time on the Tumlinson Playscape. The upper decks are in, the majority of posts are in, and rooftops are being placed. It’s been a busy two weeks and were checking things off our to-do list left and right. Materials are coming in fast, though we’ve still got one last shipment from the manufacturer on the way. In that shipment, we’ll have the exterior façade and entrance towers.

What’s next up? Pour-in-place surfaces, slide adjustments, and maybe a few “wow, that’s really happening” moments. After that, it’s on to picnic tables and one-of-a-kind signage, each with a little old-time pioneer flair, think a trading post setting straight out of a western.

The project team is already thinking two steps ahead and preparing for security lighting, tree wells, and landscaping so we can complete the punch-list and look forward to a grand opening.

Decks, Posts and Platforms 

The fort is coming together one post at a time! Shipment two (of three) has landed; like Christmas morning for the crew. You might notice some decks and posts going up as you pass by. No hands are off deck though; every new piece requires precision chiseling and drilling, even the limestone blocks, to capture that old Texas Ranger fort style. Once the platforms are set, the swings and shade structures will be next on deck.

Steppin’ Stones

We’re really rockin’ and rollin’ this week! The second shipment is here, loaded with fresh features like rooftops for the fort post ramps. With the stone foundation down, the next step, our mighty cannonball climber, will be ready to rise. We’re not skipping any stones as the stamped concrete design mock-ups roll in with the split-rail fencing and pergola next up on deck. Concrete’s been poured for the post foundations, giving us one more solid step toward the finished masterpiece.

Knot Your Average Week

Big strides on site this week! The rope bridge is pulled tight into place, and our first concrete mock-up is underway. At the back of the fort, the crew is busy laying huge limestone steps weighing about half a ton each! With new materials arriving early next week and sheet plans weaving together, this one-of-a-kind playscape is coming together strand by strand.

Going Vertical

Exciting progress on the Tumlinson Fort Playscape Project! We’re now starting to see structures take shape as construction moves upward. Rock walls are going up, footers are being set in place, and safety features, like railings are being installed. The fort is quickly transforming from groundwork into visible vertical progress! 

The next shipment of materials from the manufacturer is scheduled to arrive in October. Stay tuned for next week’s update.

Rolling Into Play: Tumlinson Playscape Takes Shape

The first big playscape pieces arrived on-site Monday, and crews are leveling the area with machine rollers to prepare for installation.

Steady Progress Update - Progress is moving forward on the Playscape Project!

• Surveying Completed – Surveyors were on site Friday morning to mark and pin the layout. This allows crews to begin stringing and verifying placements first thing this week. Having all points marked will greatly speed up construction.
• Construction Kickoff – Work crews are set to begin on-site preparations immediately. Materials will be staged inside the fenced area for safety and security.
• Equipment Delivery – The first two play structures from PlayVentures are scheduled to arrive on Monday, August 25. A sky track will be on-site to unload and organize materials.
• Community Considerations – We are mindful of residents’ concerns and want to assure everyone that the project is on schedule. While it may look quiet at times, much of the progress involves preparation, coordination, and deliveries. 

Safety remains the top priority.

• Upcoming Site Work – Irrigation repairs are scheduled for Thursday, August 21, from noon to 5 p.m. During this time, water will be temporarily unavailable in the immediate park area.
• Next Steps – Additional proposals for site amenities (such as bench and trash can powder coating, concrete, and shade structure options) are being finalized and will be presented at the upcoming board meeting.

The MUD is excited to see the project come to life and appreciate the community’s patience as we work to build a new centerpiece for play and connection.

Update August 4, 2025

Progress continues at the Tumlinson Playscape Project site! TF Harper has officially removed four full dump truck loads of pea gravel from the area.

This key milestone allows the project to move forward into the next phase of construction.

The MUD is excited to see this transformation take shape as the playscape evolves into a safer, more modern, and inclusive space for the community.

Block House / Tumlinson Park monthly update #2 – May 2025

Week of May 5 – Brett with PlayVentures is working on firm dates for delivery of playground. Playground will deliver in three separate shipments on separate dates as per PlayVentures request.

Week of May 12 – Still no confirmed or speculative delivery dates as of yet. We tentatively have SWPPP starting the end of July.

Week of May 19 – Still awaiting any sort of expected shipping date for first playground equipment delivery from PlayVentures. Staff is going to reach out today (Tuesday, May 19th) and press harder for this as we can’t determine an accurate construction schedule without it.

*Update – PlayVentures responded with a preliminary schedule for the first shipment on Wednesday May 22. All shop drawings for “Shipment 1” are almost complete and they have 95% of the materials for this in stock. This consists of the main fort play structure. These drawings are expected to be completed and sent to Hitchcock Design Group on Tuesday May 27 (or possibly sooner) for approval. They will begin fabrication on these items the week of June 2nd with an anticipated delivery date of August 11 or possibly before. We (TF Harper) will be sending out an updated construction schedule as soon as these drawings are approved.
